1. PURPOSE
1.1 To encourage members of the Bermuda Fry-Angle A.S. to breed fish and to disseminate information concerning the spawning and rearing of fish.
1.2 To recognize achievements by members of our Society concerning the breeding of fish.
1.3 To promote interest in a wider variety of fish and to make those species more available to other members.
1.4

To make more members active participants in the Bermuda Fry-Angle A.S.

2. AWARDS
2.1 Members will accumulate points for each successful spawn that they register in the Breeders Awards Programme (BAP). Those points will not expire, so a member can accumulate points over several years to gradually achieve the various breeder award point totals.
2.2 Breeder Award - 75 points.
Spawning from any class or combination of classes
Advanced Breeder Award - 150 points.

Must include at least two spawnings, of different species, from Class C or higher.

Senior Breeder Award - 300 points.
Must include at least two spawnings, of different species, from Classes D, E or F.
Expert Breeder Award - 600 points.
Must include at least four spawns, of different species, from Classes D, E or F.
Master Breeder Award - 1000 points.
Must spawn 75 species from 25 genera and must spawn three different fish from Classes E or F.
Grand Master Breeder Award - 1500 points.
Must spawn 75 species from 50 different genera and must spawn three different Class E fish and one from Class F.
2.3 In addition to the breeder levels outlined at 2.2 (above), there will be an annual award for Breeder of the Year . This will be awarded to the person turning in the most BAP points In one year, running from Ist January to 31st December.
2.4 The BAP also includes Specialisation Awards for members who meet the following criteria. These points are in addition to the normal BAP points awarded for each spawn.

a. General Specialization Award - 30 points.
Given for spawning six or more members of a family of fish (i.e. tetras, barbs, killies, Catfish etc.)
b. Livebearer Award - 15 points.
Given for spawning and raising six different colour or finnage varieties of one species. The six varieties must be from six different spawnings.
c. Species Specialization Award - 15 points.
Given for spawning and raising six different colour or finnage varieties of any one species of egg laying fish. The six varieties must be from six different spawnings.
3. POINTS AWARDED
3.1

The points awarded for various spawns will depend upon which class the fish species is listed in. The points to be awarded for each class are listed below:

  Class A 5 points
  Class B 10 points
  Class C 15 points
  Class D 20 points
  Class E 25 points
  Class F 50 points
4. FIRST SPAWNS
4.1 There will be 3 bonus points awarded to members who spawn a fish species that has not been successfully spawned previously within the Society's BAP. The ‘first time spawned’ bonus points only apply to species that are listed in classes C, D, E and F.
5. REQUIREMENTS
5.1 For all six classes, the participating member must spawn and raise ten fry to 60 days of age. This requirement may be reduced to five fry for certain species, at the discretion of the BAP Committee.
5.2 The participant is required to pay a one-time Initiation fee of $10. In addition, a $3 registration fee will be paid for each spawn reported to the BAP. The BAP will be self-funding and the various fees will be used to offset the cost of purchasing awards, etc.
5.3 In addition to the above, spawns of species from class F (only) shall also require the breeder to write an article of 500 words or more in order to be awarded the points. This is to ensure that knowledge and tips for breeding target species is shared amongst members.
5.4 A member will only receive full points once for each species. A second spawning of the same species will receive half-points (fractions will be rounded upwards). Any further spawn of the same species will only be credited towards the Specialization Awards.
6. REPORTING AND VERIFICATION OF SPAWNS
6.1 All spawns must be registered with the BAP Chairman (or a delegate in times of absence), within 7 days of birthing or hatching. The BAP Chairman will then arrange for a member of the BAP Committee to visit the home of the participant to verify the spawn.
6.2 The BAP Chairman, or the delegate, must report his/her spawns to a member of the Executive Committee who will then verify the spawn.
6.3 The participant must have a prepared BAP form ready when the BAP Chairman visits to verify the spawn. The spawn will not be verified without a completed form. The member verifying the spawn must sign and date the form at the time of the verification. BAP forms are available from the BAP Chairman.
6.4

In cases where the identity of the species may not be immediately clear to the member verifying the spawn, the onus is on the breeder to provide proof of the species identity. Ideally, this will be done by means of photographs (in a book or magazine). Should the species be unidentified, a photograph of the parents should be provided and attached to the BAP form. Points will be credited once the species has been identified.

6.5

When the spawn is in a community setting, the onus is on the breeder to ensure that the fry are visible to the person verifying the spawn.

6.6 When the fry have reached sixty days of age, the participant should remind the BAP Chairman, so that the final verification can be made.
7. ADDITIONAL NOTES
7.1 Any member of the Society is eligible to participate in the BAP. Members living under the same roof may participate as a partnership. However, points credited to a partnership cannot be credited to an individual, even in the event that the partnership breaks up.
7.2 Members are responsible for obtaining, completing and turning in BAP forms.
7.3 The BAP Chairman and the Executive Committee will be responsible for placing any unclassed fish species into a class and for re-classifying certain fish from time to time. In the case of a fish being placed into a higher class, all previous spawns will receive the higher points; however, previous spawns of a fish species placed into a lower class will not be penalized points if spawned prior to the date the classification was lowered. Any member may request reclassification of a fish at the time he reports the spawn but the decision of the BAP Chairman and the Executive Committee is final. Fish that are not currently classified should be accompanied by a recommendation by the breeder as to the class he feels that it should be placed in, with the reasons why.
7.4 Eggs must be obtained from a member's own spawning and not from an outside source. The parent fish must belong to the member registering the spawn.
7.5 Articles for Class F species will be submitted to the BAP Chairman so that the points can be credited.
7.6 Points will only be credited when all criteria have been met, i.e. first and second verifications, completed BAP form, and submission of article (class F only).
7.7 Some marine invertebrates are listed under the point’s classification. Any successful spawning of a marine invertebrate, which is not listed, will be referred to the BAP Chairman and the Executive Committee who will decide upon a point value, after consulting with the membership and professional marine aquarists. Only invertebrates that reproduce sexually will be considered.
7.8 For the Breeder of the Year Award, all points earned for spawns within that year will count. Points awarded due to an upgrading of a fish and points pending from a previous year, i.e. awaiting articles, will not count. Points will be credited only for fry that hatch, or are delivered (livebearers), within the year in question. Therefore, if fry hatch on 31st December, and are subsequently awarded points upon reaching 60 days of age (on February 3rd for example) those points will still be credited toward the previous year's total provided that the necessary criteria have been met and the points are awarded by 28th February.
7.9 Spawns resulting from indiscriminate hybridization will not be considered for credit in the BAP. This will not affect species that have developed from a degree of hybridization and are established within the hobby, such as Angels, Bettas and Livebearers.
7.10 Hatching, in the case of mouth-brooding species, shall be taken as the time the fry are first released from the mouth. In the case of livebearers, it shall be the time that the fry are delivered. Hatching in other egg-layers is as the term implies.
7.11 The BAP Chairman and the Executive Committee will have the final say in any disputes.
