2009 SHOW RULES

  1. Anyone may enter the show. It is not necessary to be a member of an aquarium society.

  2. Exhibitors may submit as many entries as they wish, at the stipulated fees.

  3. Each entry can only be entered in one class.

  4. All sections of the entry forms should be completed, where possible.

  5. The organisers have a number of small acrylic tanks, sized 10 gallons and smaller for use in the show. Exhibitors may rent these tanks at a cost of $5.00 each. These tanks will be allocated on a first come - first served basis. Submit your entry forms early to be assured of securing a rental tank (if required). Remember that we have run out of rental tanks in previous years!

  6. Individual fish should preferably be displayed in ten-gallon tanks or smaller. However, tanks up to 30 gallons may be used to display large fish. Requests to display fish in larger tanks will be considered, depending upon available space. We will need advance notice if large tanks are to be used. Bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish) may be shown in bowls.

  7. Tanks used in the show should be covered with glass canopies or other transparent covers to prevent entries from jumping out. No lighting may be used on the show tanks during the period of judging.

  8. Water will be available at the Aquarium if required.

  9. Exhibitors are required to provide filtration for the tanks in the species section. Air will be supplied by the organisers, so the simplest method of filtration would be a sponge-filter or other air-powered filter. The organisers will ensure that the room temperature is satisfactory for tropical fish, so individual heaters are not required in tanks. Exhibitors who require higher temperatures for their particular species (i.e. discus) should provide heaters.

  10. Entries may be set up between 5pm and 10pm on Thursday, 15th October 2009. The doors will be closed at 10pm sharp.

  11. Entries must remain on-site throughout the show. Failure to comply will render the entrant ineligible for any awards. Entries must be removed between 5.00pm and 8.00pm on Saturday, 17th October 2009.

  12. The organisers will NOT be responsible for any entries that are not collected by 8.00pm on Saturday, 17th October 2009. The air supply will be dismantled and doors will be locked and entrants may then have to wait until the following day to collect their entries.

  13. Leaking tanks must be repaired or replaced immediately. Defective equipment may be repaired at any time with the show committee’s approval.

  14. No freak, deformed, diseased or hybrid fish will be accepted.

  15. Tanks may contain gravel or other substrate, but it is not necessary. A single piece of decor, i.e. a small plant pot or rock, may be used as a retreat for the fish. Items of decor must be capable of being easily removed from the tank by the judge.

  16. Tank-dividers may be used to distinctly separate species entries. Otherwise, only one entry per tank will be permitted.

  17. Each entry will normally consist of a single fish. Fish may be entered as pairs (male & female) or in schools (i.e. tetras). In such cases both fish in the pair, or all the fish in the school, will be considered when judging (this means that one inferior fish in the school will bring down the overall score).

  18. All entries must be the property of the entrant.

  19. All junior entries should be fish that are maintained or cared for by the junior entrants themselves. There are special awards for juniors in addition to the open awards that are intended for genuine junior hobbyists. Adults should NOT submit entries in their children’s names. Junior entries set up by an adult are liable to be disqualified, if it appears that this rule is being flouted. Adult entries MAY be set up by someone other than the entrant.

  20. All entries by juniors are eligible for the various open classes. Therefore a fish could be awarded “Best Cichlid by a Junior” and still win “Best Cichlid In Show”.

  21. No restrictions are imposed on entries by dealers within the hobby.

  22. The fees for entries shall be as follows:

    Fee Schedule
Juniors (under 16 yrs) $2.00 per entry for first 3 entries and FREE thereafter (i.e. a maximum charge of $6.00).
Special early entry fee – Any junior entries received by 4.00pm on Saturday, 10th October 2009 will be FREE (tank rental fees still apply).
Adults $5.00 per entry for first 3 entries and FREE thereafter (i.e. a maximum of $15.00)
Special early entry fee – Any Adult entries received by 4.00pm on Saturday, 10th October 2009 will be $3.00 per entry for first 3 entries and FREE thereafter (i.e. maximum of $9.00). Tank rental fees still apply.
  23. Awards - Ribbons are awarded to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, as well as to the Best in Class, Best in Show and Reserve Best In Show. Trophies are also awarded for various categories (see the attached list for the various trophies).

  24. The organisers and show-site are not responsible for any exhibit, fish or equipment. Responsibility lies with the entrant.

  25. Removal of dead fish may only be done by the entrant or a member of the show committee. (It is rare for a fish to die whilst being shown).

  26. During judging, only persons with assigned duties shall be allowed in the judging area. Access to the show room will be restricted after the judging, until the banquet on Friday evening.

  27. The decision of the Judges is final.

  28. The completed judging sheets will be available to entrants at the completion of judging.

  29. Any questions or complaint about the show rules, the show, set-up, judging etc. shall be directed to the show committee. Their decision is final.

  30. Submission of an entry form implies acceptance of show rules.

  31. Violation of rules may result in disqualification.

  32. Persons entering as juniors must not have attained the age of 16 years, as of Saturday, 17th November 2009.

  33. The Bermuda Fry-Angle Aquarium Society reserves the right to amend the show rules, if necessary. See the following page for the various show classes for the species section. If you require help identifying your entry, or allocating it to one of the classes, call Craig Morfitt at 293-2490.
