What type(s) of fish are you keeping?
Mostly Central American cichlids such as Synspilum, managuense, tetracanthus, haitiensis, cutteri, motoguense, beani, pearsi, bocourti, istlanum and dovii. I also have Discus and Tiger Shovelnose Catfish (to name a few).
What are your favourite fish (type or species) and why?
|Symphysodon aequifasciata (Discus). Discus were the first fish that I ever kept. To me they are the most majestic cichlid. Most fish have the same pattern and colour variety but with Discus, you can get the same fish in so many different colours and patterns
Have you had success in getting your fish to breed?

I have been fortunate to have bred a few species such as convicts, cutteri, managuense, tetracanthus, haitiensis, trimaculatus, Yellow Labs, Aulonocara sp., and robertsoni
Are you maintaining a live-planted aquarium?
If so, what equipment are you using and what type of plants do you currently have?
No.
Do you maintain an outdoor pond? If so, what size is it and what type of fish are in it?
No.
Do you have any favourite aquarium books? If so, what are they?
The collection of Baensch’s Aquarium Atlas’ and the Aqua Logs.
What Fry-Angle Aquarium Society activities do you enjoy the most?
I really look forward to the annual Fish Show. I also enjoy the speakers that we bring in for talks to the club. They broaden my understanding of different fish and most speakers also bring fish for auction. The auction fish that they bring are rarely, if ever, seen in a pet shop.
Have you participated in any overseas activities related to the fish hobby (conventions, collecting trips, visits to fish farms, etc). If so, could you tell us about them?
I have attended many ACA conventions over the past 14 years. In 2003 I went on my first collecting trip to Peru. My second collecting trip was to Honduras in 2007. I am planning to go collecting twice this year in the canals of Florida (and visit some fish farms) in April and in November I will be collecting in Uruguay. The great thing about collecting is that you can be sure you have a strong wild strain for breeding. There is something special about knowing that you personally caught the fish you have in your tanks. It makes for great fish conversation.
What would you say to someone who keeps fish in Bermuda but isn’t a member of the Fry-Angle Aquarium Society?
If you want to increase your knowledge about fish keeping, the Fry-Angle Aquarium Society is a great resource. The members are great! They are very helpful and knowledgeable. The Fry-Angle Aquarium Society is excellent for any level of fish hobbyist from the beginner to the advanced. When I first joined, I had only one tank and I didn’t even know what pH was! Now I am traveling to different countries and going to places I might have never thought the go all because of my love of fish that was cultivated through my membership of the Bermuda Fry-Angle Aquarium Society.
Anything else you’d like to tell other members about?
Many hands make light work! The club has been around for 20 years and I would like to see it around for many more years to come. So don’t be afraid to help when and where possible. The fewer people that carry the load the greater chance they will eventually burn out.
